Celebration Day is an in-person evening + full-day workshop for Mum/Ren+/Whānau/Aunty/Carers and pre-teens predominately 10-12 years of age.  It is a two-part, three-session workshop in preparation for menarche (first period), and building menstrual cycle awareness and parent and tween connection.

Part 1 Session 1: Mum/Ren+/Whānau/Aunty/Carers only, 2 hours the evening prior. We discuss aspects of our own stories with menarche where applicable, look at resources for the pre-teens, cover menstrual well-being and practical tips. 

Part 2 Session 2:  Pre-teens and the facilitator in-person from 10.00 am-12.30 pm.  We cover all aspects of cycles and rhythms, discuss practicalities and well-being with the menstrual cycle, cultural understandings, and explore products, ways of celebrating, and feelings related to the changes, all the while crafting and completing fun activities.

Part 2 Session 3:  Mum/Ren+/Whānau/Aunty/Carers return and join in 12.30-3.00 pm.  We share lunch then share intergenerational stories of inspirational cisgender/transgender women/non-binary people in our lives, positive menarche stories, craft a special locket, discuss strengths and perform a simple blessing.  The focus of the day is on the power of normalisation, informed information and choices, connection, intergenerational stories and gentle celebration.  It is a strengths-based approach.  

LOCATION

Workshops are held at a person’s home or a community venue.  An ideal group size is between 6-12 pre-teens.  Morning tea is provided.  Lunch is a potluck and provided and shared by participants.

Celebration Day workshops are held throughout Aotearoa/New Zealand on a request basis.
